Assertiveness Skills

Assertiveness is the ability to express one's feelings and assert one's rights while respecting the feelings and rights of others. Assertive communication is appropriately direct, open and honest, and clarifies one's needs to the other person.

Assertiveness comes naturally to some, but is a skill that can be learned. The assertive person clearly expresses his or her rights or needs. They tend to face problems promptly and they focus on solutions rather than problems. Their behaviour is to promote communication and problem solving. This person uses a variety of behaviors depending on the situation.

People who have mastered the skill of assertiveness are able to greatly reduce the level of interpersonal conflict in their lives, thereby reducing a major source of stress. Our programme successfully assists participants in understanding how and when to be assertive. Click here for details.
