FETAC Certificate in Facilitation for Community Development Officers
This FETAC Certificate in Facilitation Skills & Group work will allow people who work with groups in the community or voluntary sectors to certify that they are effective Facilitators. It is designed to build on, refresh or complement their existing facilitation skills. It will help to prepare them for new challenges in their sector.

Having completed the training participants will:
• Plan, implement and document a facilitated session
• Understand group dynamics and the characteristics of effective groups
• Recognise the contribution of leadership in groups
• Identify and define key facilitation skills
• Develop the skills to encourage participation, use active listening,
summarising, clarification, and meeting the objectives of the session
• Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of core group work concepts
• Demonstrate a knowledge and awareness of group dynamics
• Identify and define key facilitation skills
• Demonstrate a flexibility in their practice appropriate to specific group needs, with particular emphasis on staff groups
• Demonstrate self awareness and an ability to reflect on their practice in group facilitation
• Demonstrate knowledge of how groups are constructed
• Identify the dynamics that occur in groups in relation to their construction
• Identify exercises and processes that assist group development. :
• Explain and identify roles within groups
• Demonstrate knowledge of how roles are created in groups.
• Awareness of roles as they apply to Task, Process, and, Egocentric behaviour.
• Define task and process as they apply to groups and group Work.
• The role of facilitator in maintaining balance between task and process in group work
• Identify and define the key stages of group process.
• Demonstrate knowledge of how they apply to the different stages of group process.
• Identify challenges and issues that arise for groups in the different stages.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the role of the facilitator in each stage.
• Plan a co-facilitated workshop
• Explain the stages involved in planning and delivering a co- facilitating workshop.
• Distinguish between facilitating on ones own and co-facilitating.
• Identify practical and interpersonal skills needed for co- facilitation.
• Identify group needs
• Demonstrate an awareness of the stage and development of the group.
• Devise workshop aims and objectives
• Demonstrate effective time management in the delivery of a co- facilitated workshop.
• Critically evaluate the co- facilitated workshop.
• Demonstrate a flexible approach to facilitation during the workshop.
• Deliver and respond to feedback as apart of workshop process.
• Evaluate and document learning from the session.
